Impatiens bokorensis (Balsaminaceae), a new species from Cambodia
Impatiens bokorensis, a new species of family Balsaminaceae from Phnum Bokor National Park in southwestern Cambodia, is described and illustrated. The species is similar to Impatiens patula, but is readily distinguished by the orbicular-obovate dorsal petal, shorter pedicels and larger seeds.
متن کاملTesting for stress-dependent inbreeding depression in Impatiens capensis (Balsaminaceae).
The relevance of inbreeding depression to the persistence of plant populations can depend upon whether stress magnifies inbreeding depression for fitness-related traits. To examine whether drought stress exacerbates inbreeding depression in gas exchange traits and biomass, we grew selfed and outcrossed progeny of inbred lines from two populations of Impatiens capensis in a greenhouse experiment...
متن کاملDemonstration of pollinator-mediated competition between two native Impatiens species, Impatiens noli-tangere and I. textori (Balsaminaceae)
Plant-plant interspecific competition via pollinators occurs when the flowering seasons of two or more plant species overlap and the pollinator fauna is shared. Negative sexual interactions between species (reproductive interference) through improper heterospecific pollen transfer have recently been reported between native and invasive species demonstrating pollination-driven competition. We fo...
متن کاملComparative Genomics of the Balsaminaceae Sister Genera Hydrocera triflora and Impatiens pinfanensis
The family Balsaminaceae, which consists of the economically important genus Impatiens and the monotypic genus Hydrocera, lacks a reported or published complete chloroplast genome sequence. Therefore, chloroplast genome sequences of the two sister genera are significant to give insight into the phylogenetic position and understanding the evolution of the Balsaminaceae family among the Ericales....
متن کاملPhylogenetic utility of the AP3/DEF K-domain and its molecular evolution in Impatiens (Balsaminaceae).
APETALA3 (AP3)/DEFICIENS (DEF) is a MADS-box transcription factor that is involved in establishing the identity of petal and stamen floral organs. The AP3/DEF gene lineage has been extensively examined throughout the angiosperms in order to better understand its role in floral diversity and evolution. As a result, a large number of cloned AP3/DEF orthologues are available, which can be used for...
